Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
Acme Inc., doing business as Acme ("we," "us," or "our"), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you visit https://acme.example (the "Site"), contact us, request a quote, or subscribe to our communications.
This policy applies to the Site. It does not apply to information collected under a separate customer agreement, employment relationship, or offline process that has its own privacy notice.
Information we collect
Information you provide
We may collect information you choose to provide, including:
- Contact information, such as your name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, and business name.
- Inquiry and quote information, such as the services you are interested in, project details, requested dates, locations, budget information, and messages or files you submit.
- Newsletter information, such as your email address, subscription preferences, and interactions with our emails.
- Communications you send to us and information you provide when exercising a privacy right.
Please do not submit Social Security numbers, financial account details, medical information, or other sensitive information through a general contact or quote form unless we specifically request it through an appropriate secure process.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Site, our systems may automatically process limited technical information, including:
- Internet Protocol address.
- Browser type, device type, operating system, and language.
- Requested pages, referring page, date and time of access, and general interaction information.
- Security and diagnostic information used to detect abuse, troubleshoot errors, and keep the Site available.
Our default, first-party analytics service is designed to operate without cookies or persistent visitor identifiers. We use it to understand aggregate traffic, such as page views, referral sources, general device types, and approximate geographic regions. It is not used for cross-site tracking or personalized advertising. IP addresses are anonymized before storage, and analytics records are retained indefinitely unless deletion is requested or required by law.
Third-party content
The Site may include maps, videos, social media posts, review widgets, or other content supplied by third parties. Depending on how the content is configured, the provider may receive your IP address, browser information, the page you visited, and information collected through its cookies or similar technologies. Some third-party content loads when the page opens. See our Cookie Policy for details.
How we use information
We may use information to:
- Respond to questions, quote requests, and other communications.
- Evaluate a requested project or service and take steps you request before entering into an agreement.
- Provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and our services.
- Understand Site traffic and performance.
- Send newsletters or marketing communications in accordance with your preferences.
- Measure advertising and conduct remarketing when enabled and legally permitted.
- Detect fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents, and technical problems.
- Maintain business records, enforce agreements, and comply with legal obligations.
- Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Legal bases for international visitors
If the laws of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction require us to identify a legal basis, we process personal information as appropriate based on:
- Your consent, such as for nonessential cookies, advertising technologies, or optional marketing communications.
- Steps you ask us to take before entering into a contract, such as reviewing a quote request.
- Performance of a contract with you.
- Our legitimate interests, such as responding to inquiries, securing the Site, preventing fraud, maintaining business records, and improving our services, when those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Compliance with a legal obligation.
You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
How we disclose information
We may disclose information to:
- Website hosting, content delivery, security, analytics, form processing, email, customer support, and other vendors that perform services for us.
- Professional advisers, such as attorneys, accountants, insurers, and auditors.
- Advertising and measurement partners when the related technology is enabled and legally permitted.
- Government authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate misuse, or respond to lawful process.
- A buyer, successor, or adviser in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction.
We may also disclose information at your direction or with your consent.
Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising
We do not sell personal information for money. In the default Site configuration, we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or process it for targeted advertising.
Cookies and similar technologies
The default analytics service does not use cookies. Other optional features, including embedded content or an advertising service, may use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, or similar technologies.
When a consent banner is enabled, nonessential technologies are blocked until you make a choice where required. You may later change your selection through the "Cookie Settings" or "Privacy Choices" link. When the Site is configured for notice-only mode, the notice explains the technologies in use and the choices available to you. Notice-only mode does not replace consent where consent is legally required.
For more information, see our Cookie Policy.
Email communications
If you subscribe to marketing emails, we use your contact information to send the communications you requested. You may unsubscribe through the link in any marketing email or by contacting us. We may retain limited information on a suppression list so we can honor your opt-out. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending nonmarketing messages about an existing transaction or relationship.
Data retention
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, security, and dispute-resolution needs. Our typical retention periods are:
- Contact and quote requests: retained indefinitely unless deletion is requested or required by law.
- Newsletter subscription records: while subscribed, followed by a limited suppression record after opt-out.
- Security and diagnostic logs: retained indefinitely unless deletion is requested or required by law.
- First-party analytics records: retained indefinitely unless deletion is requested or required by law.
- Advertising data: according to our configuration and the applicable provider's retention controls.
We may retain information longer when required by law, needed for an active customer relationship, or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International data transfers
We are based in the United States. If you access the Site from another country, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use an appropriate legal mechanism for international transfers. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have the right to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information and obtain access to it.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Request deletion of personal information.
- Obtain a portable copy of certain personal information.
- Opt out of targeted advertising, the sale or sharing of personal information, or certain profiling.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent.
- Appeal our refusal to act on a request, where applicable.
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
To submit a request, email privacy@acme.example and describe the right you wish to exercise and the state or country where you live. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and request. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and verification of your identity. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. If we deny a request, you may appeal by emailing privacy@acme.example with the subject line "Privacy Appeal."
Browser-based privacy signals
Where required by applicable law, we treat a recognized Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and targeted advertising for the browser or device sending the signal. Other "Do Not Track" signals are not interpreted consistently across the industry and may not receive the same response.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
We do not knowingly use the personal information of minors for targeted advertising, sale, or profiling in violation of applicable law. Businesses that intentionally direct services to children or minors must replace this section with a policy designed for that audience before publishing the Site.
Third-party websites
The Site may link to websites or services we do not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for those practices.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. We will provide additional notice when required by law.
